Behlen Building Systems has appointed Pat Kern as vice president of new business development and international marketing. In this newly-established position, Kern will lead the commercial sales effort and project coordination for new building system projects in the eastern U.S. region and international sales opportunities.

“This appointment offers our design/build expertise to new customers in an expanded territory,” President and CEO Phil Raimondo says. “Pat brings decades of experience to the position both domestically and in international markets. He understands the entire building process from design, engineering, fabrication and erection. With Kern at the helm of our new market sales and marketing efforts, Behlen can meet the demand for metal building solutions.”

“I’m ready to hit the ground running leading both contractor/builder and international partner sales for Behlen’s eastern U.S. and world-wide international projects,” states Kern. “There is a commitment from the Behlen leadership to expand into new market segments and regions previously not serviced by the Behlen distribution channel. Prior to joining Behlen, Kern served as the VP and general manager at Steel Built Corp. and SBC Building Systems. Throughout the past three decades Kern held positions in virtually all areas of management and business development for metal building companies including SBC Building Systems, American Buildings, and Varco Pruden Buildings. Kern holds a BSIE from General Motors Institute and a MBA from Bowling Green State University.

Mr. Kern is a former member of the Board of Directors for the Metal Building Manufacturers Association (MBMA) and is active in multiple local/regional business associations in western PA and eastern Ohio where the Behlen eastern region and international sales office will be initially located.

Knight Joins Axalta Coating Systems to Manage Dura Coat Products

Dan Knight has joined Axalta Coating Systems (AXTA) in their Industrial Coatings segment as the vice president and general manager for Dura Coat Products.

Axalta purchased a majority stake in Dura Coat this past summer and will acquire the remaining outstanding shares by January 2019, subject to regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions. Founded in 1986, Dura Coat has developed a position in the market via its singular focus on overcoming customer challenges through innovation. Dura Coat brands include Durapon, Ceranamel and the XT series of specialty coatings.

Hong, president of Dura Coat Products. “With the synergies that are possible through the acquisition, we welcome Dan to lead the integration of the two companies. Dan comes to Axalta with 25 years of experience in sales, marketing and R&D management in the coil and extrusion coatings markets. Dan will work directly with Dr. Hong to continue to integrate the Dura Coat business into Axalta while working to expand the business both in North America and globally. Key priorities for Dan and the management team of Dura Coat will be maintaining the product innovation and customer service that Dura Coat is known for, while taking advantage of the synergies that Axalta offers Dura Coat.

MBCI Appoints Viechnicki President, Green Vice President of Sales

MBCI has announced that Joel Viechnicki will succeed Bill Coleman as president of NCI Building System’s Components group. In this position, Joel will serve as president of MBCI, in addition to overseeing the commercial organizations of American Building Components, DBCI and Metal Depots.

In an effort to further improve collaboration and operations across the NCI family, Bill Coleman has accepted the position of president of NCI Building System’s Buildings group.

Joel has 25 years of experience in the metal building components industry, and most recently served in dual roles as vice president of MBCI and president of American Building Components (ABC). He began his tenure in 1993 and has worked in various progressive positions across both MBCI and ABC since.

“I have worked side-by-side with Joel for many years and have confidence that he will fulfill our brand promise to our customers and drive the organization,” says Bill Coleman.

Additionally, Bruce Green has been appointed to the position of vice president of sales for MBCI. Bruce began his career with MBCI in 1989. He has grown within the sales organization, most recently serving as general manager of sales for the South Central Region.

Kett Tool Announces Retirement of Vice President

Kett Tool, an Ohio-based manufacturer of electric and pneumatic tools, announces that Rick Fowkes, vice president of Kett Tool, has retired from the company. Fowkes retires after 34 years of service with the company. Alex Rozumovich, previously director of engineering, has assumed the role of vice president.

“Throughout his Kett career, Rick has demonstrated integrity and an enduring commitment to our company,” says Kathy Conlon, president, Kett Tool Co. “Rick has been a valuable partner to me and to the company throughout his 34 years. We thank him for his career with Kett Tool and wish him the best in retirement.”

During his 34 years with Kett, Fowkes was involved in all aspects of the business. He began his career at Kett Tool in 1982 as a sales associate. After gaining several years of sales and marketing experience, he became sales manager for the company in 1989. In 2007, he was promoted to vice president of the company, where he oversaw day-to-day activities, marketing and sales, public relations and strategic planning.

“I am grateful to have spent 34 years with this great company, and deeply honored to have had the opportunity to be part of its leadership for the last nine,” says Fowkes. “I am very proud of what my Kett colleagues have accomplished during our time together and know that Alex will play a big part in the continued success of the company going forward.”

Rozumovich has served as director of engineering since 2007.
