Energy-efficiency upgrades and a high-efficiency solar-energy solution significantly reduced an existing commercial building’s power load. The core of the project is a 531-kilowatt solar photovoltaic installation on the facility’s roof. The solar-power system is expected to meet 30 percent of the building’s annual energy needs and is projected to produce more than 598,000 kilowatt-hours of clean electricity each year, which is equivalent to taking 87 passenger vehicles off the road.

Carl Zeiss is a 160-year-old optics company known for eye-glass lenses and semiconductors. The firm chose Kingspan Energy to integrate energy-efficiency measures, including LED lighting and solar photovoltaics at the company’s sales, service and training center.

The combined project, along with a roof upgrade that enhanced the insulation value of the building and made it solar ready, has resulted in a 60 percent reduction in energy load.

“All of the projects were professionally run by Kingspan Energy representatives who were attentive to our needs,” says Jim Olivo, Carl Zeiss CFO. “We are proud to demonstrate Zeiss’s commitment to creating a greener environment in our community with this project.”
