Attachment Protects Standing Seam Roofs From Damage Due to Retractable Lanyards

SeamSAFE, a provider of fall protection for standing seam roofers, offers its Retractable Lanyard Disks, which fit over SeamSAFE anchors to help protect standing seam roofs from damage caused by dragging or dropping retractable lanyards during roofing projects. The disks serve as a shield to minimize the potential for roof scrapes and surface indentations.

The Retractable Lanyard Disk is one of three new attachments designed to extend the utility and versatility of the company’s best-of-class safety anchors. The other new accessories are SeamSAFE’s ladder attachment and toe board attachment.

According to SeamSAFE inventor and owner Doug Mullins, “We developed our new accessories in response to feedback from roofers who are seeking better and more efficient solutions to the challenges of working on a standing seam roof.”

The new products add to SeamSAFE’s existing line of anchor accessories, which include SeamSAFE Roof Brackets and SeamSAFE Adapters. The company’s brackets are used by roofers for mounting a temporary rooftop walkboard or staging area for gear and materials. The adapters provide a means to temporarily or permanently install a wide range of equipment to rooftops.

Concrete Roofing Tiles Available in Five New Colors

Boral Roofing LLCintroduces a collection of five new refined concrete roofing tile colors inspired by the natural beauty of California. Each of the new neutral shades is available in four tile profiles designed to complement the state’s three emerging home architectural styles – traditional, transitional and contemporary.

“These exciting new additions to our high-performance roofing tile portfolio are the result of extensive research conducted into consumer and building trends nationally and within the state,” said Peter Chalmers, Product Manager of Boral Roofing. “Through this process we have identified trending and emerging colors and profiles to complement the home architecture styles of California.”

Boral Roofing’s new hues celebrate the natural terrain and landscape of California. All considered darker neutral options, the sophisticated new shades include: Graphite, Sepia, Shadow Black, Oceana and Saddleback Blend.

The new California collection boasts the same exceptional benefits as all of Boral Roofing’s concrete tile options. The collection offers a Class A fire rating, an important feature for roofing systems within a state prone to wildfires, as well as additional protections from the weather and elements. Energy efficiency is also a key feature of the tile, which dramatically reduces the electricity demands of the home, associated with both heating and cooling.

According to the company, the concrete tile is manufactured sustainably with locally-sourced, abundant and naturally occurring geologic material. Boral Roofing’s concrete tile is fully recyclable at the end of its life on the roof, reducing landfill waste.

The new concrete roof tile colors are now available throughout the state of California. The collection may be previewed at the International Roofing Expo Feb 11-13 in booth #933, at International Builders Show February 19-21 in booth # C4519, and in the California Colors Brochure.

Capped Skylight Conversion Kit

Skyco Skylights offers the Capped Conversion Kit, which converts old capless skylights to a more trusted capped system. With the kit, commercial roofers receive a universal fitting Polycarbonate dome, a custom-sized aluminum cap, and Tek Screw with EPDM gaskets.

According to the company, using a cap around the perimeter of the polycarbonate dome creates a leak-free seal and eliminates cracking. The custom-fitted aluminum cap is fastened to the skylight frame with Tek-Screws instead of drilling through the plastic dome. Penetrating the dome with screws is a major cause for cracking. Many times, installers will over-torque the screw, immediately cause the dome to crack. Drilling through the Conversion Kit’s aluminum cap into a steal frames makes it easy to drill without cracking.

Accroding to the manufacturer, the average install time for two installers is 1-2 minutes per kit. Watch the install video here.

Fireproof, Eco-Friendly Roof Tiles

X-MAT, the Advanced Materials Division of Semplastics, is completing work on a Phase 1 SBIR grant with the Department of Energy. During this phase, X-MAT developed a groundbreaking fireproof roof tile that exceeds industry standards. According to the company, its roof tiles can withstand extreme temperatures and have higher flexure strength than currently available ceramic roof tiles.

According to the company, the key to the roof tiles is X-MAT’s revolutionary material, a composite made of polymer-derived ceramic, which, when mixed with coal, enables the coal to be used without burning it to create coal core-composite. With the coal core-composite, the company has produced fireproof roof tiles that have high durability with a reduced energy footprint.

“We are thrilled with our progress on the development of revolutionary roof tiles that far exceed the industry standard for fire protection and strength,” said Bill Easter. “In a world with more ferocious national disasters – we are on a path to producing a roof tile that is environmentally friendly and meets the demands for the changing world.”

Redesigned Strut Support Provides Improved Performance

GREEN LINK Engineering offers its redesigned KnuckleHead Strut Support, which provides improved performance and more visually appealing aesthetics.

The new design features a sleeker look with ribs flanking each side of the head. It is more characteristic of the KnuckleHead style reflecting intricate engineering and mold design.

“Aesthetics matter, just like performance,” said Lisa Mulder, GREEN LINK Technical Representative. “Our support heads have high performance features but also interesting designs that enhance the look of the finished job. Our new strut head has that same appeal.”

The new strut head features a 1 1/8 -inch deep cavity for holding a standard steel strut. When mechanically fastening the strut into place, bolts or screws pass through the side of the head into the metal strut.  The new design features a flat surface, instead of the previous curved design, resulting in easier installation and a tighter fit between screw and head.

In areas where hurricanes or seismic activity are present, mechanical fastening is often required to secure installations.  A secure installation can be achieved without bolts or screws using GREEN LINK Adhesive/Sealant to bond to the metal channel as well as to the molded nylon surface of the KnuckleHead. With shear strength of up to 275 psi, GREEN LINK Adhesive/Sealant can replace mechanical fasteners making for easier installation, according to the company.

Electronic Leak Detection Testing System Developed for Black EPDM

Detec Systems has developed the IntegriScan scanning platform. According to the company, this is the only testing method capable of Electronic Leak Detection (ELD) testing of conductive membranes including Black EPDM and semi-conductive waterproofing systems. Black EPDM contains carbon black, which produces a level of electrical conductivity that makes testing impossible using high voltage and vector mapping.

In order to enable valid ELD testing of Black EPDM, TruGround Conductive Primer must be applied directly below the membrane per ASTM D7877. TruGround can be used for quality assurance testing on newly installed, fully adhered or mechanically attached EPDM membranes. Once applied, ELD testing can be performed for the life of the roof. Future breaches or seam voids can be quickly pinpointed allowing repairs to be done immediately, preventing costly moisture damage to occur. The IntegriScan and TruGround are compatible with all membranes including EPDM, TPO, PVC, modified bitumen, and hot and cold fluid-applied waterproofing.
