Atlas Roofing Corp. has unveiled WeatherMaster Film SE.

Atlas Roofing Corp. has unveiled WeatherMaster Film SE, a high-temperature underlayment that is suited to metal roof applications. The underlayment gives continuous protection to the entire deck of a properly ventilated roof and mitigates problem areas where water can collect. The flexible product is easy to install in critical transition areas where the roofline elevation changes. It provides a secondary layer of waterproofing to prevent damage from windblown rain and meets ASTM D1970 for ice-dam underlayment. The SBS modified membrane features a textured surface for traction and skid-resistance.

Duro-Last Inc. has added to its Duro-Guard product line with Duro-Guard SOPRAVAP’R, a vapor retarder and air barrier membrane. This product is composed of a self-adhesive SBS modified bitumen with a polyethylene facer on the top surface and a silicone release film on bottom. Duro-Guard SOPRAVAP’R addresses the movement of air in roof assemblies as required in the 2012 International Energy Code.

When correctly engineered into a roof assembly, it will contribute to long-lasting thermal and waterproofing performance in all climate zones for all colors including white membranes provided by Duro-Last. Duro-Guard SOPRAVAP’R can also be used as a temporary roof in new construction or roof tear offs. Duro-Guard SOPRAVAP’R can be installed on steel, plywood, gypsum, concrete board, asphalt panel or concrete deck. The addition of the Duro-Guard SOPRAVAP’R provides Duro-Last customers with another Edge-to-Edge & Deck-to-Sky solution.

Synthetic Underlayment Minimizes Labor Expense

REX SynFelt from Alpha ProTech Engineered Products

REX SynFelt from Alpha ProTech Engineered Products

REX SynFelt from Alpha ProTech Engineered Products is a high-strength woven synthetic roof underlayment that can save you 50 percent in labor and time expense, compared to 30# felt. Here’s why:

The most slip-resistant underlayment in the industry
20-times stronger than 30# felt; it won’t tear-off or buckle when wet
    10-times lighter per square
10 squares per roll weighing only 28 pounds (250-foot roll)
5 squares per roll weighing only 14 pounds (125-foot roll)
UV-resistant and can be exposed for up to six months
Light gray color reduces heat and provides cooler working surface

Pre-printed nailing pattern speeds installation.

Protect Roof Sheathing from Moisture

Proof Dura-Felt from Insulation Solutions

Proof Dura-Felt from Insulation Solutions

Proof Dura-Felt from Insulation Solutions Inc. is designed to protect roof sheathing from moisture penetration. It provides an essential layer of protection beneath the roofing material, acting as a secondary barrier to moisture that might otherwise be absorbed into the sheathing.

The 10-mil product is composed of 8×8 HDPE laminated to point-bonded PP-coated with high COF co-polymers for traction. At 4.75 ounces per square yard, it offers a tensile strength that meets ASTM D751.

Owens Corning Roofing and Asphalt has made available its patented WeatherLock Mat Self Adhering Underlayment that helps make installation safe for contractors working on the roof. The product’s design is engineered with SureStep Technology, which features a non-abrasive surface, providing excellent traction to help roofing crews reduce the potential for slippage. As part of the Owens Corning Total Protection Roofing System, WeatherLock Mat Self Adhering Underlayment acts as a secondary water shedding layer under shingles to deliver the weather protection that homeowners expect, while featuring the self-adhering, lightweight and versatile design contractors need for convenient and safe installation.

Radiant Barrier Combines Energy Efficiency with Moisture Protection

Huber Engineered Woods has released its ZIP System radiant barrier.

Huber Engineered Woods has released its ZIP System radiant barrier.

The most recent innovation from Huber Engineered Woods combines superior strength and stiffness, moisture resistance, and now a radiant heat barrier. The new ZIP System radiant barrier incorporates the signature ZIP System technology with radiant heat protection.

ZIP System radiant barrier combines the energy-efficiency benefits of radiant barrier with the superior moisture protection and simple installation of ZIP System sheathing. The panels are now available for national distribution.

ZIP System radiant barrier panels block up to 97 percent of radiant heat transfer which can lower attic temperatures by as much as 30 degrees. The all-in-one sheathing allows for a faster, more efficient installation, providing an instant 180-day rough dry-in. Homeowners also can reap the benefits of ZIP System Radiant Barrier, as the roof panels reduce home cooling costs up to 12 percent.*

ZIP System radiant barrier roof panels are available in 1/2-, 5/8-, and 7/16-inch thicknesses. ZIP System roof panels eliminate the need for felt paper, resulting in a more efficient building process.

*All testing. Testing was done in accordance with ASTM standard and test methods. The Florida Solar Energy Center/University of Central Florida Publication #FSEC-EN-15-87 titled “Radiant Barriers: A Question & Answer Primer.” Studies represent cases in the Southeast and may not be representative of other regions. Savings also depend on the amount of heat the roof and attic contribute to a home’s cooling load.

Air, Vapor and Water Barrier Products for All Six Sides of the Building Envelope

Garland Aero-Block product line offers solutions for all six sides of the building enclosure

The Garland Aero-Block product line offers solutions for all six sides of the building enclosure.

As the push for more energy-efficient buildings continues, numerous building codes are now including air barrier requirements. To address these changing standards, Garland has engineered a new product line of high-performance solutions that prevent unwanted air, vapor and water from penetrating the building envelope. The Garland Aero-Block product line offers solutions for all six sides of the building enclosure, as well as for gaps in walls or between sections of walls.

This new polymer-modified-asphalt technology is available in three formats. The fluid-applied solvent-based polymer and fluid-applied water-based polymer versions can be applied by brush, spray or roller. There is also a pre-fabricated, self-adhering multi-layer membrane. The entire Aero-Block family create vapor-closed protection, meeting the requirements for a Class I air/vapor barrier.

A companion vapor-open product line, Aero-Perm, will become available later this year. Aero-Perm will offer the same capabilities as Aero-Block systems, while providing permeability to water vapor.

IKO has announced packaging changes to its GoldShield Ice & Water Protector.

IKO has announced packaging changes to its GoldShield Ice & Water Protector to provide added user friendliness to roofers and product dealers.

The new GoldShield Ice & Water Protector will be available in the form of a fully enclosed, shrink wrapped film on individual rolls replacing the previous boxed roll format that was shrink wrapped by the pallet. The new film packaging is water resistant and treated for enhanced UV resistance improving the ability to store it outdoors. The packaging is also smaller in size allowing for an increased number of rolls per pallet and reducing the inventory space required for storage purposes.

Because there is no change to the product itself suppliers will be able to mix the new packaging and their existing supply. The products are totally compatible.
