The ladder and toe board attachments serve double duty since they can be used for fall arrest protection at the same time they are being used to secure a ladder or toe board. The attachments are designed with an extra hole that allows roofers to tie off during projects. This eliminates the need to purchase an additional anchor to guard against falls.

The new products add to SeamSAFE’s existing line of anchor accessories, which include SeamSAFE Roof Brackets and SeamSAFE Adapters. The company’s brackets are used by roofers for mounting a temporary rooftop walkboard or staging area for gear and materials. The Finnish company Alupro announces the immediate availability of the Parapet Bridge for the temporary fall protection AluFix EVO.

In 2015, Alupro successfully introduced the temporary fall protection railing system AluFix EVO for highly secure roof work.

The new Parapet Bridge serves as an additional, outer safety railing, with which the temporary fall protection AluFix EVO can be extended quickly, easily and tool-free. The Parapet Bridge creates additional freedom of movement, because it increases the available working space beyond the parapet. Without having to set up a scaffolding from the outside, e.g. work on the parapet cover can be performed with the proven counterweight system AluFix EVO. The fall protection railing is flexibly applicable up to a parapet thickness of 730 mm and allows safe working on levels up to a roof pitch of 10 degrees. Enhanced D-Ring Offered for Standing Seam Roof Anchors

SeamSAFE has introduced a new D-ring for the company’s standing seam roof anchors. The roll-out of the upgraded D-ring follows the latest testing that certifies the anchor’s capability to support 10,520 pounds of weight. Previously, SeamSAFE anchors were certified to support 5,000 pounds.

After testing, Mullins developed the enhanced D-ring to accommodate the newly certified holding strength of SeamSAFE anchors. The updated D-ring, comprised of quarter-inch stainless steel, is now included in all anchor purchases. Roofers using anchors with the original D-ring may contact SeamSAFE at (855) 263-1521 to receive the new D-ring at no charge. The change in D-ring will accommodate a load increase from 5,000 to 10,520 pounds.

Made in the USA, SeamSAFE anchors feature two metal blocks that are manufactured with 6061-T aircraft aluminum. The blocks are designed and cut to house the D-ring in the center of the anchor and clamp on a single standing seam of a metal roof. The blocks are connected by three grade-8 shank bolts that have lock washers and nuts.

The anchor works by separating the metal blocks, fitting them over the standing seam, and then torquing the bolts to 60 foot-pounds with a box-end wrench. Single-wrench installation takes under a minute to complete.

In addition to more than double the weight-load capacity of other anchors, SeamSAFE anchors feature twice the holding surface, according to the manufacturer. They are lightweight, easily transported and feature a low-profile.

SeamSAFE anchors function on a temporary or permanent basis. In addition to roofer fall protection, the anchors can be used to attach solar panels, roof jacks, ladders and other devices to standing seam metal roofs. Security Bars Provide Fall Protection

Fall protection for roofers is an important topic in the roofing industry. California Code of Regulations oversees fall protection codes and has ruled on a groundbreaking issue. Security Bars have been approved for Title 8, Section 3212 Fall Protection Codes.

Rooftop safety and security products and practices are essential for a safe work environment. Roofing Contractors spend a lot of time ensuring they comply with codes and standards. Title 8, Section 3212 states:

  • “Every floor and roof opening shall be guarded by a cover, a guardrail, or equivalent on all open sides. While the cover is not in place, the openings shall be constantly attended by someone or shall be protected by guardrails. Toe-boards shall be installed around the edges at opening where persons may pass below the opening.”

Some exceptions apply but for the most part an opening on a roof needs to have fall protections. Properly covering each hole can be time consuming for contractors. They need to withstand an impact test of 400 pounds minimum, no opening can be larger than 12 inches horizontally, the lip cannot be higher than 1 inch, and in the case of broken skylight glazing no impalement hazard for worker who has fallen through.
