“Our Metal Trends collection transcends color to help architects and design professionals emulate the eye-catching look of natural and anodized metal with greater color consistency and less maintenance than raw metal,” said Jeff Alexander, vice president of sales for Sherwin-Williams Coil Coatings.

He continued, “Fluropon’s highly durable coating systems present a wide range of rich tones that allow architectural metal products to deliver the same aesthetic as the day they’re installed.”

For projects seeking a pre-weathered, pre-patina appearance without waiting for the metal to naturally age, the Fluropon Metal Trends Color Collection includes such unique options as Antique Copper Print, Weathered Steel Print and Weathered Zinc Print. Unlike actual rusted, weathered metal that potentially can damage surrounding building materials and products, painted finishes provide a consistent appearance and reliable, durable performance.

For more than 50 years, Fluropon high-performance coil and extrusion coating systems have been showcased on commercial and monumental building projects across the world. Typical applications include metal wall panels, façade systems, roofing, louvers, soffits, fascia, sun shades, curtain wall, storefront, skylights, and window and door framing members.

“From solids to mica/metallics to special effects, Fluropon can help bring any design to life in vivid color,” emphasized Alexander. “We’ve formulated more than 50,000 architectural metal coating colors. We can customize the level of sparkle, gloss and texture to mimic the radiance of natural materials.”

Fluropon provides an economical option to the premium prices of real copper, gold and brass. Along with mimicking the look of these metals, Fluropon conceals the defects and blemishes in recycled metal used to support sustainable design goals.

Demonstrating its enduring appearance and performance, Fluropon’s 70% polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) resin-based architectural coatings meet or exceed the industry’s most rigorous testing standards, including AAMA 2605 requirements. In addition to its color and gloss retention, Fluropon is verified to resist dirt, stains and chemicals, and to protect against corrosion, rust and degradation. The coating undergoes accelerated laboratory testing and natural, long-term weather testing to ensure its longevity and durability.

Upholding reliable quality and performance, Fluropon products are applied in-factory by approved coil coaters and extrusion applicators for batch-to-batch color consistency and uniformity. Should the finished material become damaged after installation, touch-up solutions are available.

Coil Coatings Available in New Color Palette

Sherwin-Williams unveils a new architect-inspired color palette, Fluropon Architect Series, created by architects who attended the company’s “Color Mixology” event during the AIA Conference on Architecture 2019 in Las Vegas. The private event brought together hundreds of architects who helped to create 10 newly developed colors of Fluropon 70 percent PVDF architectural metal coatings.

“We are thrilled to be unveiling these colors that architects actually created through our interactive color experience at AIA,” said Mike Bourdeau, President of Coil Coatings at Sherwin-Williams. “At Sherwin-Williams, we work to provide architects with endless color possibilities for their projects and Color Mixology was a fun and engaging way for architects to experience color like never before.”

Sherwin-Williams selected 10 unique colors of the hundreds created by architects during Color Mixology and matched them in various Fluropon 70 percent PVDF systems for exterior metal architecture. This special edition color series incorporates a wide range of color, texture and effects. Colors range from solids, to micas, to color-shifting, and each color tells a unique story.

Two of the colors highlighted in the Fluropon Architect Series include Emerald and Moonlight. Emerald, by Rebecca Blake of SmithGroup Los Angeles, has a slight color shift from blue to green and was inspired by California’s coastal colors. Moonlight, by Richard Cabrera of Marnell Architecture Las Vegas, includes blue and red influences that create vibrancy that pops in muted desert landscapes.

New Fluid-Applied Membrane Is Designed to Be Tough, Virtually Odorless, Easy to Apply

Garland’s first ever fluid-applied seamless membrane, LiquiTec, forms a virtually impenetrable surface over aged modified bitumen, metal and single-ply roof systems, adding years of waterproofing protection. LiquiTec is an aliphatic polyurea coating system with a tightly bonded molecular structure that provides strength and durability similar to truck bed liners. LiquiTec is built to protect roof surfaces from damage caused by hail, foot traffic, wind scour and other impact.

According to the manufacturer, LiquiTec fully and partially reinforced systems exhibit extremely high tensile strength and remain flexible at temperatures down to -60°F (-51°C), which helps keep the coating from cracking or becoming brittle to ensure a complete watertight seal and long-term waterproofing protection. In addition to its strength, LiquiTec contains zero VOCs and is extremely low odor to allow roof work to be completed with minimal or no disruption at sensitive locations like schools, hospitals and other structures where people are present.

This two-component product also undergoes a chemical cure process, rather than a moisture cure, so it cures quickly and with less disruption from weather, allowing for faster installation and waterproofing protection.

“LiquiTec is the answer to so many of our customers’ waterproofing needs. Its unique formulation, strength and flexibility provides the right amount of toughness combined with superior waterproofing protection,” said Ed Buczek, Garland’s senior product manager of roof coatings. “And to top it off, the fact that it is extremely low odor, highly flexible, resistant to fungi and chemically cured allows it to be installed nearly anywhere and perform in the most extreme environments.”

Primer for Silicone Roof Coating System Offers Improved Adhesion, Blocks Asphalt Bleed-Through

Mule-Hide Products Co. Multibase SBMule-Hide Products Co. has expanded its Silicone Roof Coating System with Multibase SB, a new primer that delivers stronger adhesion and prevents asphalt bleed-through in non-ponding water conditions. Multibase SB is a one-part, 100 percent acrylic-based resin intended for use as a primer prior to the application of Mule-Hide 100% Silicone Roof Coating. It can be used on modified bitumen, asphaltic built-up roofing (BUR) and PVC roof surfaces.

According to the manufacturer, the primer contains minimal pigment and no mineral fillers, enhancing its adhesion to the roof surface. In addition, its relatively thin viscosity and low surface tension allows the primer to completely saturate the roof surface, further helping form a strong bond.

Multibase SB blocks asphalt bleed-through, helping ensure that white finish coats are clean and bright and deliver optimal reflectivity. The primer can be applied using airless spray equipment, a roller or a brush. Its light yellow color cures to a darker amber hue as the coating dries, providing visual confirmation that the coating has cured and the finish coating can be applied.

It is not intended for use on coal-tar-pitch roofs, on TPO membranes or in areas that experience ponding water. Multibase SB is available in 5-gallon pails and 55-gallon drums.
