Yellow Walkway Coating System Protects Roof From Foot Traffic

Metacrylics introduces a new yellow coating system that allows installers to create distinct, walkable paths to roof areas and access points that require routine maintenance. WalkwayYellow provides a textured surface, protecting the roof from damage caused by repeated foot traffic.

WalkwayYellow can be installed on coated and non-coated roofs as an alternative to solid walkway products. Because it is liquid applied, WalkwayYellow allows for custom walkway paths to better accommodate the roof layout. The product can also be used to clearly identify roof edges, equipment, and other areas to avoid.

Gary Rosenfield, vice president and general manager of Metacrylics, said, “We are excited to offer this additional product to our coatings line. We believe it adds significant value, and saves the cost of walkway pads required on many commercial roofs.”

According to the manufacturer, WalkwayYellow meets the ANSI A137.1 dynamic coefficient of friction requirements in the international building code.

Water-Based Roof Coating Ideal for Sensitive Applications

Garland offers Pyramic Plus LO, a bright white, water-based, acrylic-urethane roof coating designed to preserve asphaltic modified bitumen surfaces from UV degradation and lower temperatures on the roof surface. Pyramic Plus LO, though 100-percent water-based and non-toxic, contains uniquely formulated biocides that minimize the growth of micro-organisms including bacteria, fungi, and algae on the surface of the coating. With an odor comparable to standard house paint, these systems will not disrupt building occupants or business as usual. Pyramic Plus LO is ideal for use in sensitive applications such as schools and hospitals.

Primer for Silicone Roof Coating System Offers Improved Adhesion, Blocks Asphalt Bleed-Through

Mule-Hide Products Co. Multibase SBMule-Hide Products Co. has expanded its Silicone Roof Coating System with Multibase SB, a new primer that delivers stronger adhesion and prevents asphalt bleed-through in non-ponding water conditions. Multibase SB is a one-part, 100 percent acrylic-based resin intended for use as a primer prior to the application of Mule-Hide 100% Silicone Roof Coating. It can be used on modified bitumen, asphaltic built-up roofing (BUR) and PVC roof surfaces.

According to the manufacturer, the primer contains minimal pigment and no mineral fillers, enhancing its adhesion to the roof surface. In addition, its relatively thin viscosity and low surface tension allows the primer to completely saturate the roof surface, further helping form a strong bond.

Multibase SB blocks asphalt bleed-through, helping ensure that white finish coats are clean and bright and deliver optimal reflectivity. The primer can be applied using airless spray equipment, a roller or a brush. Its light yellow color cures to a darker amber hue as the coating dries, providing visual confirmation that the coating has cured and the finish coating can be applied.

It is not intended for use on coal-tar-pitch roofs, on TPO membranes or in areas that experience ponding water. Multibase SB is available in 5-gallon pails and 55-gallon drums.

New Coating Line Includes Silicone and Acrylic Elastomeric Products

ALSAN CoatingsSoprema Inc. launches a new collection of silicone and acrylic products under the brand name of ALSAN Coatings. ALSAN Coatings are ideal for maintaining and extending the life of existing roofs by protecting them from natural weathering.

The ALSAN Coatings line is comprised of:

  • ALSAN Coating SIL 402, a low-VOC, high-solids, single-component silicone roof coating that forms a durable weatherproof coating for exceptional UV protection and resistance to standing water. This maintenance coating is intended for application over existing single-ply (TPO, PVC, EPDM and CSPE), modified bitumen, BUR, and metal roofing systems and/or approved existing coatings.
  • ALSAN Coating AC 401, a high-quality, plasticizer-free, water-based, acrylic elastomeric roof coating that is tested in accordance to ASTM D-6083. ALSAN Coating AC 401 is highly reflective and offers outstanding flexibility and resistant natural weathering. This reflective coating is intended to be applied over existing single-ply (TPO, PVC, EPDM and CSPE), modified bitumen, BUR, and metal roofing systems and/or approved existing coatings.
  • These products are supported by several primer options that allow the coatings’ use across a range of roofing materials and help prevent asphalt bleed-through, inhibit rust and promote adhesion. Additional accessories include an all-purpose cleaner, Polyfleece polyester fabric for reinforcing seams and flashing, walkway coatings/granules, silicone caulk and butyl fleece tape. Both ALSAN Coating SIL 402 and ALSAN Coating AC 401 are available in white and custom colors.

“With the addition of ALSAN Coatings, SOPREMA now has an answer for virtually every roofing need and budget,” said Tom Stuewe, product manager, SOPREMA. “The ALSAN Coatings line now allows customers to reduce rooftop temperatures and prevent premature aging caused by UV rays, reduce energy consumption and costs, and extend the life of existing leak-free roofs that could be comprised of a variety of substrates—all at an economical price point. These materials also offer a low environmental impact, thanks to low-VOC content and their ability to extend roof lifespans, reducing landfill waste associated with tear-offs.”

Conductive Primer Designed for Electronic Testing of Conventional Roof Assemblies

Detec Systems has developed TruGround, a conductive primer which enables accurate electronic leak detection (ELD) testing on conventional roof membranes including black EPDM, TPO, PVC, modified bitumen, hot and cold fluid applied. According to the manufacturer, TruGround must be installed directly below the membrane per ASTM D7877. TruGround can be used for quality assurance testing on newly installed membranes and is chemically compatible with fully adhered, mechanically attached and torch-down membranes. Once applied, ELD testing can be performed for the life of the roof. Future breaches or seam voids can be quickly pinpointed, allowing repairs to be done immediately, preventing costly moisture damage from occurring.

SEBS Roof Coating System Designed for Use in Variety of Applications

Mule-HideThe new SEBS Roof Coating System from Mule-Hide Products Co. combines high tensile strength, excellent elasticity, ultra-low moisture permeability and resistance to ponding water, making it an ideal choice for use in a wide variety of challenging roof repair and restoration applications, according to the manufacturer.

The solvent-based coating system is designed primarily for use in repairing and restoring metal roofs, but also can be used on TPO, EPDM, asphalt, modified bitumen, Kynar, concrete, Hypalon and PIB roofing systems.

The SEBS Roof Coating System includes the following products: SEBS Primer; SEBS Base Coat; SEBS Roof Coating (for use on metal, TPO and Hypalon roofing systems); SEBS+ Roof Coating (for use on metal, TPO, Hypalon, EPDM, asphalt, modified bitumen, Kynar, concrete and PIB roofing systems); SEBS Seam Sealer; and SEBS 1 – Multipurpose Sealant.

The coatings’ solvent base and ultra-low moisture permeability enable them to outperform other coating types in ponding water applications, according to the manufacturer. They will not delaminate if the substrate becomes wet and, unlike water-based coatings, they will not re-emulsify during prolonged exposure to ponding water.

The lack of permeability also helps prevent corrosion of metal substrates and makes the coatings highly resistant to algae and fungi. Antioxidants and light stabilizers ensure the coating system’s durability throughout the roofing system’s service life.

Because the SEBS Roof Coating System is solvent-based, it cannot be shipped to areas that regulate the use of products containing volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
