Fluropon Pure is Valspar’s newest addition to its Fluropon 70 percent PVDF family of coil and extrusion coatings. Formulated with material transparency in mind, Fluropon Pure does not include hexavalent chromium, lead, phthalates and PFOA, allowing the product to meet Living Building Challenge’s Red List 3.0-Compliant requirement. Fluropon Pure delivers the same capabilities of Valspar’s original Fluropon line, including cool roof formulations. Additionally, the coating is trusted to protect buildings against harsh outdoor elements, including humidity and corrosion, dirt, stains and chemicals.

Created in 1998, the Cool Roof Rating Council develops accurate and credible methods for evaluating and labeling the solar reflectance and thermal emittance (radiative properties) of roofing products. The company shares this information with architects, specifiers, builders and all other interested parties.

The experienced team members at DaVinci Roofscapes develop and manufacture polymer roof systems with an authentic look and superior performance. DaVinci leads the industry in selection of colors, tile thickness and tile width variety. The company’s products have a limited lifetime warranty and are 100 percent recyclable. All DaVinci roofing products are proudly made in America where the company is a member of the National Association of Home Builders, the National Association of Roofing Contractors, the Cool Roof Rating Council and the U.S. Green Building Council.

Tiles Feature Replaceable Solar Module

EternaTile consists of 50-mil of a proprietary cement-infused Geopolymer bonded to foam for a lifetime finish. It provides an R-17 value or about 16 inches of pink insulation and was designed to withstand wind speeds of more than 250 mph while being impervious to cracking, chipping or peeling from inclement weather or non-edged projectiles. Intertek testing demonstrates the exposed surface area of EternaTile seldom exceeds the surrounding outdoor temperature for certain lighter colors. It does not feel hot to the touch because of its UV-resistant top layer. These features eliminate condensation between tiles and roofing substrate from ongoing day to night temperature variations. Without routine moisture build up under the tile, the substrate will stay drier, yielding a prolonged life expectancy.

EternaTile can be installed on any existing sloped roof with a 3:12 or steeper without engineer approval because of its light weight. The tile product is designed to have a lifetime warranty and the Eterna”G” replaceable solar module makes the entire product line a catalyst in the building sector.

Roof Tiles Are Embedded with Solar Cells

Power Shield Inc. has introduced roof tiles that have solar cells embedded into them. The tiles are designed to cover the whole roof. The Power Shield roof system features a cool roof coating, above-deck ventilation, and is made from recycled and non-combustible, lightweight steel. Energy is produced through the 16 watts of power per solar tile. Building-envelope thermal performance is improved through:

  • Cool roof coatings on tile keep it cool and improve energy production. The cool roof coating has high emissivity on the sun side to allow heat to be radiated out and low emissivity underneath, making the tiles a radiant barrier.
  • The efficient above-sheathing ventilation on the tile system provides a chimney effect as warm air flows between the tiles and the roof deck and out from the building. In winter, the air gap between the tiles and roof deck are insulating, reducing the heat transfer out of the attic.

Malarkey Roofing Products has made additions to its Ecoasis solar-reflective shingle line to meet growing market needs. The line now includes three levels of products: Ecoasis Premium, Ecoasis Sol and the new Ecoasis Costa. Ecoasis Costa shingles come in four colors that were inspired by popular traditional shingle colors and updated to meet reflectance requirements of the California Energy Code, Title 24, Part 6. Ecoasis Premium and Ecoasis Sol meet California Energy Code and ENERGY STAR requirements. Ecoasis Premium also features Flexor polymer-modified asphalt technology for granule adhesion, flexibility and impact resistance.

Exterior Shades Are Designed for Skylights

VELUX and RENSON have introduced Topfix VMS, a motor-operated sunscreen with special mounting feet engineered for fixed and movable VELUX Modular Skylights.

VELUX and RENSON have introduced Topfix VMS, a motor-operated sunscreen with special mounting feet engineered for fixed and movable VELUX Modular Skylights. It employs ZipShade technology, providing fabric tension and wind resistance up to 75 mph. The proprietary design integrates screen fabrics to which zippers are affixed and move within a side channel and guide system for smooth extension/retraction, consistent fabric tension and resistance to the elements. Topfix VMS is available in a variety of colors and blackout-shade options. It can be integrated into a building-management system.

Fewer Limitations for Green Roofs

The limits of green-roof feasibility are being redefined by ZinCo’s Summer Plains system combined with Aquatec. An extensive or intensive green roof can be created on a flat, sloped or even an inverted roof, depending on the selected substrate depth and the suitability of the plants for the given location. The first layer is a protective layer on the root-resistant waterproofing membrane. This is followed by the Aquatec AT 45 water distribution, storage and drainage elements in conjunction with the DV 40 wicking mat. Water is drawn upward through the wicking mat and made available to the substrate directly in the root area. The system is intended for all green roofs that require an additional irrigation system and will provide particular cost savings in arid regions where irrigation is required.

Moss Melt Concentrate, a moss and algae herbicide from Green Spear Inc., has recently received EPA registration for use on roofs, lawns, turf, and outdoor surfaces and structures. The active ingredient is an emulsified d-Limonene, which acts as a natural degreaser. It strips away the waxy surface of moss and algae without direct sunlight or warm temperatures. The product is rain-fast within one hour. Moss Melt will not stain concrete, brick, pavement, stucco or wood and will not damage gutters, metal flashing or downspouts. One gallon kills up to a 12,500-square-foot area. The product currently is available in the Pacific Northwest.

Polycarbonate Sheet Diffuses and Distributes Light in Skylight Applications

Bayer MaterialScience LLC</a> has launched Makrolon SK polycarbonate sheet

Bayer MaterialScience LLC has launched Makrolon SK polycarbonate sheet.

Bayer MaterialScience LLC has launched Makrolon SK polycarbonate sheet, the first in a series of Daylighting Solutions materials. Makrolon SK polycarbonate prismatic textured sheet is optimized to diffuse and distribute light while maintaining a high level of light transmission, making it ideal for daylighting applications. In skylight applications, the material can be draped or thermoformed and has a higher impact resistance than acrylic or glass.

Two color options are available: clear or white. A grade incorporating a UV-enhanced cap layer is available as Makrolon SK1 polycarbonate sheet.

Makrolon SK polycarbonate sheet provides commercial skylight and daylighting system manufacturers with a high-impact-strength glazing material that allows for reductions in lighting costs due to its balance of light transmission and diffusion.

Applications such as commercial skylights, canopies, overhangs, awnings and covered pedestrian walkways can all benefit from the combination of outstanding properties offered by this single material solution.
